Job summary

New Mexico School for the Deaf seeks an Educational Assistant - Sub Floater to provide sub coverage on the Albuquerque campus. The role prioritizes student supervision and safety, assists with instruction across content areas, and supports individualized learning experiences that meet student needs.

The position requires collaboration with teachers, mastery of classroom management, and willingness to support health and mobility needs.

Qualifications

• Must possess NM Educational Assistant License and Substitute License or be eligible.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• American Sign Language proficiency required or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• After sub coverage, writes clear sub summary notes for teachers/classes.
• Follow instructional objectives outlined by the certified teacher.
• Assist teachers with classroom and behavior management.
• Provide individual academic/communication support as assigned.
• Provide tutoring services with certain students.
• Escort students between classes and supervise during breaks.
• Provide coverage following substitute lesson plans when teachers are absent.
• Support IEPs tailored to each student’s needs.
• Review and follow health and behavior plans as necessary.
• Drive students to off-campus activities and assist transportation.
• Prepare materials for activities as directed by the teacher.
• Know and support emergency/lockdown procedures.
• Attend required in-service training.
• Support feeding, toileting, and mobility for specific students.
