Job summary

Mesquite ISD in Florence Elementary School is seeking a Deaf Education Assistant to support the Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within a Special Education and General Education setting. The role involves assisting the certified teacher, implementing classroom programs, and supporting student self-help and behavioral goals.

The assistant will help prepare instructional materials, manage student needs, and maintain records under supervision. Experience with Deaf culture and ASL is valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Ability to work with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
• Knowledge of Deaf Community and American Sign Language.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Deaf Education teacher in preparing instructional materials and displays.
• Assist with instructional program under supervision, adapting to each student's needs.
• Maintain administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Assist students with physical needs, including transfers and positioning.
• Attend to students’ personal care needs and behavior management.
• Supervise students during various parts of the day and assist substitutes.
• Participate in staff development and meetings as needed.
