Job summary

McLane Company, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Transportation Manager for the Lakewood, WA domicile. The role ensures 24-hour coverage and staff readiness to support warehousing activities with top-tier logistics assistance.

You will lead dispatchers, maintain compliance with DOT rules, and coordinate transportation and safety initiatives while supporting a nationwide team. A Bachelor's degree and 3 years’ experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field preferred.
• 3 years of outbound transportation experience, ideally in a distribution center.
• Skilled in Excel, Word, and Access; PeopleNet or similar programs preferred.
• Experience managing drivers: hiring, training, motivating teammates, resolving relations issues.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and memos.

Responsibilities

• Direct and motivate teammates.
• Coordinate investigation of accidents and unsafe conditions per safety standards.
• Ensure compliance with Federal DOT regulations and safety standards.
• Maintain fleet in a safe manner per company and governmental standards.
• Supervise transportation dispatchers and domicile processes.
• Schedule transportation teammates and management effectively.
• Facilitate communication within management and with teams.
• Conduct performance reviews and advise on salary adjustments.
• Provide training to maintain an efficient workforce.
• Enforce company policies and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Work with Transportation Manager to resolve warehousing and distribution issues.
• Plan, assign, and direct work; address complaints and resolve problems.
• Maintain flexible work schedule to meet department needs.
