Job summary

UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking two full-time daytime Solid Tumor Oncology Hospitalists to join the Internal Medicine inpatient service. Board-certified or board-eligible IM physicians with cancer-care experience are welcome to apply; daytime shifts are 12 hours with no overnights.

Responsibilities include admitting from ED, coordinating with outpatient oncology teams, and ensuring smooth handoffs to the overnight team.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited program.
• Completion of Internal Medicine residency.
• Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine.
• PA license eligibility for Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and admit patients from the emergency department, outpatient oncology clinics, and referring hospitals.
• Provide inpatient medical management for adults with solid tumor malignancies.
• Assess and manage acute medical issues and cancer-treatment related complications.
• Respond to changes in clinical condition and stabilize patients with urgent issues.
• Initiate diagnostic evaluations and treatment plans.
• Manage oncology-related complications such as infection, febrile neutropenia, sepsis, pain, and electrolyte issues.
• Coordinate consultations with medical and surgical specialists.
• Communicate with outpatient oncology teams regarding inpatient plans of care.
• Support safe transitions between inpatient and outpatient oncology care.
