Job summary

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center seeks two full-time daytime Internal Medicine physicians to serve as hospitalists at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh. The role focuses on inpatient care for adults with solid tumor malignancies, with 12-hour day shifts and no overnights.

The physicians will coordinate with outpatient oncology teams and provide thorough handoffs to the oncoming team. Candidates should be board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine, possess an MD or DO, and be eligible for an

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree required.
• Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Internal Medicine.
• Eligibility for an unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license.
• Experience in hospital medicine or caring for cancer patients is preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and commitment to multidisciplinary care.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and admit patients from the emergency department, outpatient oncology clinics, and referring hospitals.
• Provide inpatient medical management for adults with solid tumor malignancies.
• Assess and manage acute medical issues and treatment-related toxicities.
• Respond to changes in clinical condition and stabilize patients.
• Coordinate consultations with appropriate specialists.
• Communicate with outpatient oncology teams regarding inpatient plans of care.
• Support safe transitions between inpatient and outpatient oncology care.
• Participate in quality-improvement and education initiatives.
