Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to join the nursing team in Central Massachusetts. Under the direction of licensed clinicians, you will perform a variety of patient care activities and support the healthcare team to ensure safe, compassionate care.

Responsibilities include monitoring patients, assisting with daily living activities, taking vital signs, and supporting treatments.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
• Maintains constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse.
• Assists in daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulating, meals and nourishment.
• Assists in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients by utilizing proper safety techniques and body mechanics in all work-related activities.
• Maintains patient safety by performing patient safety checks, fall prevention measures as directed, and follows the Restraint Policy when caring for a restrained patient.
• Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and pulse oximetry). Weighs and measures patients.
• Performs EKGs, Point of Care tests and bladder scanning; collects and prepares specimens for lab transport.
• Assists RN/Licensed Independent Practitioner with treatments and procedures by preparing patient and equipment and providing emotional support.
• Observes and records oral intake and outputs; assists with tube feeding as directed.
• Demonstrates sensitivity and respectful communication with patients, staff, families, visitors.
• Replenishes patient and unit supplies and equipment as needed.
