Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Laboratory Technologist for a full-time day shift from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.

The role includes performing and evaluating clinical tests, ensuring quality control, and maintaining instruments in an acute care setting. Responsibilities include specimen collection across age groups, reporting results, and training staff while complying with CAP standards and accreditation requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness; reports results per policy.
• Performs calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments; recognizes malfunctions and implements corrections.
• Maintains quality control/quality assurance per protocol and takes corrective action as needed.
• Ensures proper labeling and collection of specimens from newborn to adult patients.
• Provides direction, training and supervision to technicians, phlebotomists, and staff; assists in training protocols.
