Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Cytotechnologist to perform microscopic evaluations of gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens, using independent judgment to develop interpretations used by physicians to determine disease or infection.

The role requires ASCP CT or SCT certification (or CT within 1 year), a Cytotechnology or CLS degree, and at least 1 year of cytology training. Full-time with weekdays hours, sign-on and relocation eligibility are available.

Qualifications

• Requires ASCP CT or SCT certification (or CT via BOC within 1 year).
• Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent.
• Recent cytology experience in acute care hospital or high-volume clinical setting preferred.
• Training in a CAAHEP-accredited program and cytology proficiency testing required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic principles for gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology and evaluates samples for malignant changes.
• Ensures accurate labeling, data entry, patient demographics, and timely reporting per QA program.
• Assists in preparing cytology slides from FNA procedures and monitors quality control/assurance.
• Troubleshoots equipment, validates instruments, and follows testing protocols.
• Documents information for QA/improvement and monitors workflow to meet deadlines.
• Uses departmental computer systems for result reporting and case routing for quality review.
• Supports adherence to accreditation standards and assists in department policies and procedures.
• Provides guidance to lab aides, pathologists, and client services while maintaining patient confidentiality.
