Job summary

SCKSEC-South Central KS Sp.Ed.Coop's Haskins Learning Center in Kansas is seeking an experienced Day School Principal for the 2027-2028 school year. The principal will serve as the instructional and climate leader, guiding staff and students toward a positive, inclusive learning environment.

The role requires a valid Kansas building-level administrative license or enrollment in a qualifying program; administrative experience is preferred and experience in special education highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid building-level Kansas administrative license or be enrolled in a qualifying program.
• Administrative experience preferred; experience in special education is highly desirable but not required.
• Candidate should be collaborative, student-focused, and able to work with families, schools and districts.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain an effective culturally competent learning climate in the school.
• Provide leadership in the development of the instructional program based on current research on effective day schools.
• Evaluate and revise curricular and instructional programs in cooperation with staff and district administrators.
• Facilitate communication between staff, students and parents for problem-solving and conflict resolution.
• Communicate with staff to assure instructional programs meet student needs and HLC/ SCKSEC requirements.
• Administer the school and its instructional program in all facets.
• Assist in supervising all support services, including custodial and maintenance.
• Supervise staff and work with the director on recruitment, screening, hiring, training, assignment and evaluation.
• Evaluate both classified and licensed staff according to Inter-local procedures.
• Institute a uniform discipline policy and develop a set of practices for student behavior.
• Develop and provide in-service programs for staff development and growth.
• Initiate, design, and implement programs to meet specific needs of the school and its students.
• Promote a positive, caring climate for learning; respect diversity; communicate with students, staff and parents.
• Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to current and future job assignment.
• Relate to students with respect while enforcing a positive discipline policy.
• Assess and evaluate situations that may involve calling law enforcement and follow protocol.
• Develop school plans and procedures for health, safety, discipline and student conduct; update manuals as needed.
• Prepare and supervise reports and paperwork; other duties as assigned by the Director.
