Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and capillary collections, transport specimens, and maintain accurate documentation. Work includes labs across physicians' offices, nursing facilities, and home draws, with a 40-hour weekly schedule and a 8:30am–5:00pm shift.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a certificate in phlebotomy or medical assisting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of a Certificate program in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Draws blood specimens following proper procedure.
• Labels all specimens according to policy.
• Transports or prepares specimens to the laboratory.
• Follow all lab and hospital safety rules and universal precautions.
• Monitors patient for negative reactions and addresses anxiety.
• Greets patient using customer care concepts.
• Enters patient information into the computer.
• Responds to inquiries from physician offices and patients.
• Verifies or confirms patients' orders as needed.
• Maintains logs and records.
• Participates in training of new employees.
• Ensures physician orders accompany tests and records diagnoses when present.
• Covers all areas of phlebotomy as needed.
