Position Summary
Responsible for working with the Co-Counselors to coordinate unit/small group program and participation in all camp activities. They are responsible for the supervision and care of a designated number of campers, facilitating the delivery of programs within a unit, small group, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the campers by facilitating girl program following state, ACA and Safety Activity Check Point Standards with an emphasis on age-appropriate and session-specific programs.
Major Accountabilities
- Work with the Co-Counselor and leadership staff to coordinate unit program and camp activities, enriching all-camp and unit/small group programs, and facilitating general camp operations following standards.
- Assist the Co-Counselor in facilitating unit activities and encourage camper participation in program delivery.
- Supervise and care for a designated number of campers, delivering programs within a unit or patrol.
- Coordinate the schedule of activities for the unit/small group.
- Maintain health and safety standards, report accidents, and file incident reports promptly.
- Participate in all camp activities such as meals, flag ceremonies, all-camp activities, cookouts, opening and closing days, and kapers.
- Attend optional camper overnights in weeks 2 and 4, as applicable.
- Keep records and prepare written reports as needed.
- Report repairs of equipment and facilities to the appropriate staff.
- Participate in scheduled meetings and trainings for effective communication.
- Maintain professional relationships with campers and staff throughout the season.
- Participate in opening and closing procedures of the camp season.
- Inform the Director of activities, problems, and concerns regarding campers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies
- Age 18 years or older.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to engage diverse staff and campers.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work in extreme environmental conditions, and walk on uneven terrain.
- Strong communication skills required.
- Experience working with children, developing, organizing, and implementing Girl Scout outdoor programs; success in girl leadership programs is desirable. Must enjoy working with children in all weather conditions.
Certifications
Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
Additional Information
Preferred: Experience with outdoor Girl Scout programs and leadership development.
