Job summary

Belcan is seeking a Database Support Engineer in Des Moines, IA to provide advanced operational support for Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and NoSQL platforms. You will monitor health, manage backups, coordinate maintenance, diagnose issues, and collaborate with L3/Engineering to ensure high availability and performance.

Responsibilities include triaging alerts, documenting runs, updating SOPs, and supporting change control while maintaining security and audit compliance across

Qualifications

• Fundamental database concepts including tables, indexes, schemas, sessions, locks, backups.
• Familiarity with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and related platforms.
• Basic SQL for queries, checks, and validations.
• Basic Linux/Windows administration for log navigation and service checks.
• Understanding of monitoring tools (OEM, SolarWinds, Nagios, Dynatrace).
• Knowledge of backup concepts—full, incremental, retention, restore basics.
• ITIL process knowledge—Incident, Request, Change.

Responsibilities

• Monitor database health, performance metrics, storage, and capacity alerts.
• Track backups, maintenance plans, and ETL tasks to ensure completion.
• Respond to alerts with initial triage based on runbooks.
• Diagnose connectivity, authentication, and query performance issues.
• Gather and analyze logs and errors to support troubleshooting.
• Process user access requests per approval workflows and manage accounts.
