Job summary

Careers In Nonprofits seeks a Donor Database Specialist to lead a 3–6 month project cleaning and standardizing the organization’s donor data in Virtuous. You will review, update, and unify donor records to ensure accurate, high-quality information for fundraising efforts.

A mission-driven nonprofit is hiring a Donor Database Specialist. The Specialist will be assigned to lead a comprehensive database cleanup and data-quality project. This role will focus on reviewing, organising, updating, and standardising information within Virtuous, while ensuring the database is accurate, consistent, and properly maintained.

This is a full-time, hybrid, temporary role based in Chicago, Illinois.

ORGANIZATION: Community Safety Nonprofit
LOCATION: Chicago, IL
POSITION TITLE: Donor Database Specialist
SCHEDULE: Hybrid, 8 am – 4 pm, Monday – Thursday in the Office, Friday Remote
DURATION: 3-6 months
HOURLY RATE: $30/hr – $35/hr DOE

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • 3–5 years of database management experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organisation.
  • Experience working with a fundraising CRM or donor database; Virtuous experience is a plus, but experience with any fundraising CRM will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience with database cleanup, data integrity, deduplication, and record management.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies and proactively resolve data-quality issues.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume, deadline-driven project.

Preferred Experience:

  • Hands-on experience with Virtuous.
  • Experience with fundraising or donor databases such as Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud, Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, EveryAction, or similar systems.
  • Experience working with nonprofit fundraising or development teams.
  • Experience with database migrations, data imports/exports, or CRM implementation projects.

How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review and cleanup of the organisation’s Virtuous database.
  • Identify and correct duplicate, outdated, incomplete, or inconsistent records.
  • Standardise contact information, constituent records, and other database fields.
  • Review and update donor and constituent records to improve data accuracy and completeness.
  • Establish consistent data-entry and database-maintenance practices.
  • Review existing database structures and recommend improvements to support ongoing data integrity.
  • Perform data quality checks and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with data imports, exports, and updates as needed.
  • Document database cleanup activities, processes, and outstanding issues.
  • Work closely with internal staff to clarify and verify database information.
  • Maintain confidentiality of donor, constituent, and organisational information.
  • Complete the project within the 3–6 month temporary assignment.
