Job summary

Matlen Silver seeks a senior Database Engineer to join our team in Plano, TX. You will own CockroachDB architecture, administration, and distribution across regions, ensuring high availability, strong security controls, and efficient automation.

You will leverage IaC (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines, implement robust backup/DR strategies, and work with stakeholders across finance-regulated environments to optimize performance and capacity planning.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on CockroachDB architecture and administration.
• Strong understanding of distributed databases, replication, and consensus models.
• Experience with multi-region deployments and high availability design.
• Proficient in shell scripting for automation.
• Familiar with IaC tools like Terraform and automation.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk).
• Knowledge of backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Security controls including encryption and RBAC; compliance awareness.
• Excellent collaboration and stakeholder communication skills.

Job description

• Good overall tenure and project durations

Strong hands-on experience with CockroachDB architecture and administration

Deep understanding of distributed database systems (replication, consistency, consensus models)

Strong shell scripting (Bash/Korn Shell) for automation and operational tooling

Expertise in using AI Tools like Github Copilot or any other AI tools to write the code

Experience with multi-region deployment architectures and high availability design

Database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning

8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments

Strong experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles

Experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)

Solid understanding of backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies

Experience implementing security controls, encryption, RBAC, and compliance standards

Excellent collaboration and stakeholder communication skills

Familiarity with Terraform or similar IaC tools

Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline integration for database provisioning

Experience in financial services or regulated environments
