Job summary

The NYS Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services seeks a data visualization professional to join the Office of Emergency Management. The incumbent will identify data needs, gather and integrate data, and create products to support data-driven decisions in disasters and emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six years of experience in intelligence analysis, homeland security, counter terrorism, emergency preparedness analysis and assessment, or investigations.
• Substitution: an associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years; a master's for five; a doctorate for six.

Responsibilities

• Report to the Data Visualization Unit and assist in identifying data and visualization needs.
• Develop data visualization products, dashboards, reporting products, and infographics.
• Analyze and interpret data outputs to support program planning, operations, and decision-making.
• Conduct open-source research on homeland security and emergency management trends and synthesize findings into actionable insights.
• Prepare preliminary reports and deliverables including executive summaries, SITREPs, AARs, dashboards, and other data visualization outputs.
• Update and maintain dashboards and datasets and liaison with data teams, program staff, and leadership.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners, including government agencies and subject matter experts.
• Translate complex findings into clear information for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Support emergency management operations and participate in planning meetings and interagency coordination.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to staff and interns.
