Job summary

TEKsystems in Palo Alto, CA seeks a Data Technician to install, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling across office and construction environments. The role will primarily serve Palo Alto with occasional Fremont coverage and maintenance-window support for projects.

This hands-on position requires strong structured cabling fundamentals, safety focus, and the ability to read blueprints and network maps while collaborating with project leads and onsite teams.

Qualifications

  • Professional structured cabling, low-voltage, or physical network infrastructure experience.
  • Hands-on copper and fiber installation experience.
  • Experience with cable pulling, routing, dressing, labeling, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with patch panels, racks, IDFs, MDFs, and common cable pathways.
  • Ability to read blueprints, network maps, labels, and installation documentation.
  • Comfort performing physically active work in an onsite environment.
  • Ability to work safely from ladders and lifts.
  • Strong attendance, reliability, communication, and documentation habits.
  • Ability to work independently while following project direction and established procedures.
  • Reliable transportation to Palo Alto and occasional Fremont assignments.
  • Broad schedule flexibility based on project maintenance windows.

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, dress, label, terminate, test, and troubleshoot copper cabling.
  • Pull, route, patch, test, and safely handle fiber-optic cabling.
  • Install and support CAT6 and CAT6A cabling.
  • Install and maintain patch panels, racks, cabinets, IDFs, and MDFs.
  • Build and support cable pathways using J-hooks, ladder racks, cable trays, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform rack-and-stack activities and assist with mounting network equipment.
  • Support physical connectivity involving switches, uplinks, SFPs, QSFPs, and single-mode fiber.
  • Trace and troubleshoot physical cabling and connectivity issues.
  • Use approved testing equipment to validate cable performance and continuity.
  • Read and follow blueprints, floor plans, network maps, port maps, labels, and installation documentation.
  • Maintain accurate cable labels, test results, project records, and work documentation.
  • Keep work areas, racks, pathways, and telecommunications spaces clean and organized.
  • Work safely from ladders, scissor lifts, aerial lifts, and elevated work areas when required.
  • Move tools, cabling materials, and network equipment safely throughout the worksite.
  • Coordinate with other technicians, project leads, vendors, and other onsite teams.
  • Follow all safety, PPE, quality, and escalation procedures.
  • Support occasional work at the Fremont factory when project timing or business priorities require it.

Description

We are seeking Data Technicians to support physical network infrastructure and structured cabling projects across Silicon Valley. The primary worksite will be in Palo Alto, with occasional support needed in Fremont.

The Data Technician will install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling throughout active office, administrative, technical, and construction environments. The position requires strong structured cabling fundamentals, attention to detail, safe work practices, and flexibility to support projects during varying maintenance windows.

Responsibilities
  • Install, route, dress, label, terminate, test, and troubleshoot copper cabling

  • Scissor-lift or aerial-lift certification

  • Experience working in active manufacturing, office, construction, or technology environments

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
