Job summary

TEKsystems in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Contract Cable Technician to install and dress copper and fiber cabling, label components, and manage materials for ongoing projects. Responsibilities include pulling cable, running conduit, laying wireways, installing racks and patch panels, terminating IDC connections, and operating hand and power tools.

You may climb ladders and work in confined spaces. This onsite contract role offers hourly pay of $23–$25 with standard benefits; eligibility depends

Qualifications

• Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds and climb ladders.
• Indoor construction environment with moderate noise.
• Sitting, using hands and arms, and frequent movement as part of regular duties.

Responsibilities

• Cable installing, dressing, labeling and material management for copper and fiber installations.
• Pull cable, run conduit, and oversee wire pulling as needed.
• Layout and install wireways, buss duct, cable tray, switches, receptacles and other devices.
• Terminate IDC connections (e.g., 110/66 blocks and patch panels) and install grounding as required.
• Operate hand and power tools and climb ladders up to 20 feet.

Main daily job duties will include: Cable installing, cable dressing, labeling, material management for cable installing (copper and fiber

• Layout and install wireway, buss duct, cable tray, switches receptacles and other devices
• Will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
• Pulls wire and/or oversees and directs conduit installations and wire pulling.
• Operates tools/equipment, normally requiring the use of two hands (examples: cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers, etc.)

The standard work environment for this position is an indoors business office and construction environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This role requires sitting, use of hands and arms, verbal communication, and occasional physical movement such as stooping or kneeling. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet. Must be able to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) if required to do so. The employee may also be required to work in tight and confined spaces.
