Yes, this position works from home 5 days a week, with the exception being when there are scheduled in-person meetings or as requested. Travel required as needed.

Who we are and what we do:

The TDMHSAS Division of Substance Abuse Services provides a continuum of prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery services across our state. We also collaboratively create pathways to help people break cycles of justice involvement and incarceration and return to productive lives in communities of their choosing. The Division of Substance Abuse Services responsibilities include planning, developing, administering, and evaluating a statewide system of substance use, abuse, and addiction services for the general public, persons at risk for substance abuse, and persons abusing substances. These responsibilities are carried out through partnering with other government agencies, community organizations, faith-based organizations, and advocacy groups. Prevention, treatment, and recovery support services are provided by community based agencies through individual contracts.

How you make a difference in this role:

The Data System/Training Specialist assists with the oversight of the in-house client level data system, collaborates with the system vendor, test for enhancements, as well as troubleshoot all issues within the system; onboard the internal and external staff; develops training materials; and facilitates training sessions to enhance end users knowledge.

Job Overview:

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  1. Assist in monitoring requests for new employee training, system lockout for approved users, credential resets, and user agreement approvals.
  2. Assist in testing data system training and production sites monthly to review accuracy of all new data elements added to the system.
  3. Assist in overseeing the Data System Service Desk to answer questions, troubleshoot problems, and facilitate solutions.
  4. Update and edit data system user manuals and tip sheets as needed.
  5. Assist with logistical arrangements and dissemination of documents for virtual or onsite training sessions.
  6. Assist with the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) upload and crosswalk for SAMHSA.
  7. Serve as backup to Data System Coordinator.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to five or more years of full-time professional work in mental health and/or substance use disorders programs, including at least one year that involved monitoring, evaluating, planning, or coordinating program activities.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in a social or behavioral science or other related acceptable field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years, there being no substitution for the one year of specialized experience.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional work in mental health and/or substance use disorders programs may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.
