Job summary

VC5 Consulting in Houston, TX, is seeking a capable Data Support Engineer to provide Level 1 and 2 support for mission-critical data pipelines in a fast-paced trading environment. You will help keep data platforms reliable, triage incidents, and collaborate with application teams and business users across regions.

You will monitor pipeline health with modern dashboards, perform routine operational tasks, and participate in on-call rotations, including after-hours support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS/IT/Engineering.
• 3+ years in application support, preferably in trading/finance.
• Strong L1/L2 support, incident management, and service desk basics.
• Experience with data warehouses, ETL, and real-time feeds.
• Python read/write for data quality; strong SQL skills.

Job description

This role provides Level 1 and Level 2 support for mission-critical data pipelines in a fast-paced trading environment. You will keep data platforms available and reliable, work with application teams and business users across regions, and drive continuous improvement in support processes. On-call rotation is part of the job.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide L1 and L2 support for data pipelines, including incident triage, troubleshooting, and resolution.
• Monitor pipeline health, performance, and data flows using monitoring tools and dashboards.
• Respond to user queries, issues, and service requests in a timely manner and **escalate** complex issues to L3 or development with clear documentation.
• Perform routine operational tasks such as failure-notification review, vendor credential management, batch job monitoring, and data integrity checks.
• Collaborate with business users on data-related functionality and best practices, and keep runbooks and knowledge bases current.
• Identify recurring issues, contribute to root cause analysis, and support incident and change management processes.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as required.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of application support experience, preferably in trading, financial services, or other data-intensive environments.
• Strong understanding of L1/L2 support, incident management, and service desk operations.
• Experience supporting data warehouses, ETL pipelines, reporting tools, or real-time data feeds.
• Ability to read basic Python and write scripts for data quality checks, plus strong SQL for investigation.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix and Windows, and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Splunk, Grafana, or AppDynamics.
• Location: Houston, TX 77027
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, in office 5 days a week, plus on-call rotation
