Are you passionate about using data to solve complex problems and drive performance? Notre Dame Athletics is seeking a collaborative and innovative Data Science Associate to help transform data into actionable insights that support student-athlete success and competitive excellence.

Working at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and sports performance, this role will contribute to a wide range of initiatives across Notre Dame Athletics, with a particular focus on recruiting, tactical insights, game strategy, and athlete performance. The Data Science Associate will leverage analytical expertise and programming skills to process, clean, analyze, and visualize data, helping coaches, analysts, and performance staff make informed decisions that positively impact team success.

As a member of a highly collaborative team, you will work closely with the Back-End Database Engineer, Data Analytics Associate, sport-specific analysts, and Sports Performance staff to develop and support innovative data-driven solutions. You'll help diagnose system issues, refine code, conduct testing, and ensure the reliability and effectiveness of analytics tools and applications used throughout the department.

In this role, you'll also have the opportunity to lead and support research initiatives designed to uncover new insights and create competitive advantages for Notre Dame teams. Whether developing analytical models, improving data accessibility, building visualization tools, or exploring emerging trends in sports analytics, your work will directly contribute to the student-athlete experience and the continued success of Notre Dame Athletics.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with coaches, analysts, and performance staff to develop tools and insights that enhance athlete and team performance.
  • Partner with the Back‑End Database Engineer to integrate, maintain, and improve data‑driven systems and applications.
  • Diagnose system issues, troubleshoot production challenges, and conduct testing to ensure analytics solutions operate effectively.

  • Work collaboratively across multiple disciplines to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, analytical techniques, and industry trends to help advance the department’s capabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Sports Performance Leadership Team and Back‑End Database Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working with cutting‑edge technologies, and seeing their work make a direct impact on the success of student‑athletes and teams. If you’re energized by data, innovation, and collaboration, we’d love to hear from you.

Qualifications

  • Highly proficient with multiple data systems and programming languages.
  • Knowledge and skills required to formulate and pursue impactful questions regarding recruiting, tactical insights, and game strategy.
  • Strong organizational skills, intellectual curiosity, stress tolerance, ability to handle uncertainty, and persistent desire to start and complete projects.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to dynamically adapt messaging to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Nights and weekends will be required.
