Data Risk Manager

Location: Richmond, Virginia (Hybrid)

Role Overview

This position will support a large-scale business and technology integration by assessing data risk. The role involves evaluating data risk across operational and analytical data flows, third-party integrations, data migration activities, and downstream data consumption. The ideal candidate will possess a strong data risk mindset and partner with business, technology, data, and risk stakeholders to identify and mitigate data-related risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess data risk during a large-scale integration and migration.
• Review legacy system decommissioning and historical data migration.
• Evaluate risks associated with a new loan servicing vendor.
• Assess data access controls and data quality.
• Review data mapping and validation approaches.
• Draft risk assessments and leadership-facing documentation.
• Identify new and emerging data risks by understanding evolving data architectures.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of data management controls and validation activities.
• Communicate risks and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Background in Data Management, Data Risk, Data Governance, or Technology Risk.
• Knowledge of data governance frameworks, control frameworks, and risk management concepts.
• Experience with risk assessment and mitigation.
• Strong stakeholder management and executive-level written communication skills.
• Analytical skills to assess complex situations and make sound judgments.
• Experience translating technical data concepts into risk assessments and mitigation plans.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting data migrations and conversion initiatives.
• Banking or financial services experience.
• DAMA/CDMP certification.
• Experience with preventive and detective controls.
