Job summary

CarGurus is seeking a Data Platform Engineer Intern to join our Data Engineering team for an 11-week Summer Internship designed to give hands-on experience and build core industry skills.

This full-time opportunity runs from June through August 2027, with CarGurus operating on a hybrid working model. Interns should expect to work out of our Boston, MA office about 60% of the time (approximately three days per week).

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field.
• Exposure to data engineering and interest in scalable data pipelines and infra.
• Proficiency in Python and knowledge of SQL.
• Experience working in a cross-functional team environment.
• Good understanding of data pipeline architecture and data modeling.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of workflow tools like Airflow or Luigi.
• Understanding of requirements gathering, analysis, code review, testing.
• Collaborative teammate with willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Gain deep understanding of evolving data and analytics stack.
• Follow decisions in Data Engineering and contribute to strategic data pipeline input.
• Help build robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, SQL, Airflow.
• Write clean, testable data pipeline code and handle errors.
• Partner with leads to develop testing strategies.
• Collaborate with upstream and downstream data consumers and maintain a healthy environment.
• Deploy and manage data infrastructure using Terraform.
