Job summary

CarGurus is seeking a Data Platform Engineer Intern to join our Data Engineering team for an 11-week Summer Internship designed to give hands-on experience and build core industry skills.

This full-time opportunity runs from June through August 2027, with CarGurus operating on a hybrid working model. Interns should expect to work out of our Boston, MA office about 60% of the time (approximately three days per week).

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field.
• Exposure to data engineering and interest in scalable data pipelines and infra.
• Proficiency in Python and knowledge of SQL.
• Experience working in a cross-functional team environment.
• Good understanding of data pipeline architecture and data modeling.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of workflow tools like Airflow or Luigi.
• Understanding of requirements gathering, analysis, code review, testing.
• Collaborative teammate with willingness to learn new technologies.

Role overview

CarGurus is looking for a highly motivated Data Platform Engineer Intern for the Data Engineering team to support evolving our modern data warehousing platform to world-class levels! As CarGurus enters the next phase of dramatic growth with new data sources, new business lines, and business acquisitions, we are looking for a candidate who is interested in learning and being part of revamping how we do data at the company.

As a Data Platform Engineer Intern, you will join an 11-week Summer Internship Program designed to give you hands-on experience, expand your professional network, and build core industry skills. This full-time opportunity (40 hours per week) runs from June through August 2027. CarGurus operates on a hybrid working model, and candidates should expect to work out of our Boston, MA office 60% of the time (approximately three days per week).

What you'll do

• Gain a deep understanding of our evolving data and analytics stack
• Understand and follow the decisions around the Data Engineering domain while providing input into strategic decisions around the overall data pipeline process
• Help build robust and scalable data integration (ETL/ELT) pipelines using Fivetran, Python, SQL and Airflow
• Write clean data pipeline code that is easily testable, understood by other developers, and handles errors
• Partner with stakeholders / leads to develop testing
• Collaborate with upstream data producers and downstream data consumers, and maintain a healthy work environment
• Deploy and manage our data infrastructure using Terraform

What you'll bring

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field, with eligibility to complete a full-time internship.
• Exposure to data engineering and interest in designing and building scalable and reliable data pipelines and infrastructure
• Proficiency with Python programming skills and knowledge of SQL
• Experience working in a cross-functional team environment
• Good understanding of overall data pipeline system architecture and data modeling
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Working knowledge of workflow management tools like Airflow, Luigi etc
• Understanding of requirement gathering, analysis, code review, unit and integration testing
• Great teammate, interested in sharing knowledge with other team members, and is curious about learning new technologies

The displayed range represents the expected hourly rate for this position.

The displayed range represents the expected annual base salary / On-Target Earnings (OTE) for this position. On-Target Earnings (OTE) is inclusive of base salary and on-target commission earnings, which applies exclusively to sales roles.

Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and other factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

This annual base salary forms part of a comprehensive Total Rewards Package. In addition to benefits, this role may qualify for discretionary bonuses/incentives and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

$30-$30 USD
