Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Data Engineering Platform Engineer on the Data Platform team. You will build abstractions, SDKs, and self-service apps that empower analysts, data scientists, and engineers to deploy and manage thousands of data pipelines with robust security and observability.

You will work across data storage, processing, and tooling, partnering with stakeholders to design scalable data models and APIs.

Qualifications

7+ years backend data engineering experience.
Strong Python or Java backend development.
Fluent SQL for ETL/ELT and analytics.
Hands-on with Snowflake or Databricks.
Experience with data systems or pipelines.
Knowledge of Git, Linux, and Docker.
Experience with Airflow, BI, and AI tools.

Responsibilities

Build clean software abstractions and modular, reusable components that support thousands of pipelines as we scale.
Build and maintain data integration and processing SDKs used by data teams and internal services across Coinbase.
Design and build self-service applications for analysts and data scientists to manage pipelines with minimal platform knowledge.
Develop tooling for data security and observability: access controls, data quality tracking, cataloging and lineage, usage auditing.
Collaborate cross-functionally with upstream teams to optimize data APIs and provide well-documented data models and metrics.
Translate functional requests from data teams into scalable, reusable patterns.
