Job summary

Wilson Elser is seeking a Data Operations Engineer to manage, optimize, and support enterprise data platforms across on‑premises and cloud environments. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (On‑Premises), Azure SQL, and Azure Databricks, ensuring data platform availability, performance, security, and operational excellence.

This role maintains critical database infrastructure, supports data engineering workloads, automates processes, monitors health, and collaborates

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT/Engineering.
• 4+ years of Azure SQL and MS SQL Server administration.
• Strong knowledge of T-SQL programming and query optimization.
• Experience with SQL Server backup/recovery strategies.
• Knowledge of HA/DR solutions.
• Experience with Azure Monitor/Log Analytics and performance monitoring.
• Familiarity with PowerShell, Azure CLI or Python scripting.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain SQL Server on-premises environments.
• Manage Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Monitor database health, performance, storage and capacity.
• Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades and migrations.
• Configure high availability/DR: Always On, failover, backups.
• Develop and maintain backup, restore, and DR procedures.
• Manage Azure SQL resources and Databricks workspaces.
• Monitor cloud resources and Databricks job scheduling.
• Collaborate with InfoSec and Infra teams on data security.
