Job summary

Wilson Elser in Dallas seeks a Data Operations Engineer to manage, optimize, and support enterprise data platforms across on-prem and cloud environments, with strong expertise in MS SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure Databricks.

You will ensure data availability, performance, security, and operational excellence; collaborate with data engineers, developers, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable data services; participate in monitoring, backups, DR, and automation tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering.
• 4+ years administering Azure SQL and MS SQL Server environments.
• Strong knowledge of T-SQL programming and query optimization.
• Experience with SQL Server backup and recovery strategies.
• Knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions.
• Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and performance monitoring tools.
• Familiarity with PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Python scripting.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ensure compliance with organizational governance and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server on-premises environments.
• Manage Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments.
• Monitor database health, performance, storage utilization, and capacity planning.
• Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
• Configure and manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, backup, and recovery.
• Develop and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Manage and monitor Azure SQL resources and Azure Databricks workspaces
• Monitor SQL cloud resource utilization and Databricks job scheduling.
• Coordinate data security access management with InfoSec and Infrastructure teams.
