Job summary

Safelite is seeking a Manager of Data Engineering to modernize legacy data pipelines, build scalable ETL from diverse sources, and deploy CI/CD for data workflows. You will mentor a team of data engineers and guide stakeholders to improve data quality and reporting accuracy.

The role requires strong SQL, cloud warehousing (Snowflake/BigQuery), and experience with orchestration tools. A strategic, hands-on leader will drive data governance and collaboration across functions.

Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• 4–6 years of hands-on data engineering or analytics experience.
• 1–3 years of managing a technical team.
• Extensive experience with ETL/ELT jobs and data pipelines (Buildkite, AWS Glue, Informatica).
• Proficiency with Snowflake or BigQuery and relational databases.
• Advanced SQL skills with window functions, CTEs, and nested queries.
• Experience with script-based transformation tools (dbt, Talend).
• Ability to train developers in GitHub and version control.
• Strong data architecture, governance, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience with legacy data tools and orchestrating workflows (Airflow/Dagster).
• Leadership and project management skills for mentoring data teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of legacy data ingestion processes for scalability.
• Design and build scalable ETL pipelines to centralized data lake.
• Develop and deploy CI/CD pipelines for data workflows and improve monitoring.
• Rebuild legacy reporting workflows with modern cloud tools for performance.
• Act as player-coach, mentoring data engineers and providing guidance.
• Align data engineering with business goals across teams.
• Manage costs associated with data infrastructure and operations.
