Job summary

Buildertrend is seeking a Data Engineering Intern to help build datasets and pipelines that power our BI, analytics, and AI initiatives. You’ll work with a modern data stack, learning how raw data from sources like Salesforce and SQL Server becomes curated datasets.

You’ll collaborate with experienced data engineers, write SQL, and gain hands-on experience across the data lifecycle, with mentorship and a focus on real business impact this summer.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field.
• Available to work full-time onsite at Buildertrend HQ in Omaha, NE for the full summer.
• Strong interest in data engineering: ETL/ELT, and datasets for BI/ML use cases.
• Familiar with SQL and at least one programming language (e.g., Python).
• Curiosity about Databricks and dbt, eager to learn on the job.
• Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude) in coursework or projects.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; clear communication.
• Able to work independently and in a team; eager to learn and take feedback.

Responsibilities

• Help build and maintain ELT/ETL pipelines from sources like SQL Server and Salesforce.
• Write SQL to transform and model data for BI, analytics, and ML/AI use cases.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, Analysts and other stakeholders to define dataset needs.
• Learn Databricks, dbt, and a medallion data organization approach with mentorship.
• Write and run data quality and freshness checks for dataset reliability.
• Document datasets with table definitions, column notes, and simple diagrams.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding while ensuring quality.
• Complete tasks within established sprint timelines.
