Job summary

American Century Investments is seeking a Manager of Data Engineering to lead development and operations for enterprise data platforms. You’ll guide data engineering, AI-ready data products, and semantic modeling while mentoring a team toward empowered delivery.

The role emphasizes data enablement and self-service consumption across IT and business units. The position reports to Director - Data Technologies and is hybrid, based in Kansas City, MO or Southlake, TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of progressive hands-on engineering building data platforms (ETL/ELT, data lakes, cloud warehouses) and 2+ years leading engineers.
• Hands-on experience building AI-ready data products with semantic modeling, metadata, and business context.
• Experience partnering with IT and business data teams to enable self-service data products.
• 5+ years of SDLC/Agile.
• 1-3 years of AWS data services (S3, Glue, Redshift, EMR).
• 3-5 years of data movement experience (EMR, Glue).
• 5+ years of programming in Python, Java, Scala, or C#.
• 1-3 years of DevOps with Git, build, artifact management, and deployment automation.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership while guiding engineering design and architecture decisions.
• Build and maintain an enterprise data ecosystem with scalable pipelines and platforms.
• Analyze requirements and coordinate IT policies, procedures and development practices.
• Identify and implement internal process improvements for data delivery and infrastructure.
• Research emerging data technologies to improve AI-ready data products.
• Lead development of AI-ready data products with semantic models and context.
• Partner with IT and business teams to enable self-service data product consumption.
