Job summary

Intrepid Direct Insurance (IDI) is hiring a Data Engineer to design, build, deploy, and manage our data systems in Overland Park, KS. This in-office role supports growth by delivering scalable pipelines and reliable data for analytics.

You will model data, implement ETL processes, collaborate with data scientists and developers, and stay current with data management technologies. A Bachelor's in math/CS and 3+ years of experience are desired; insurance data experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of relevant data engineering experience.
• Analytical thinker with experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
• Technical expertise with Microsoft SQL Server.
• Familiarity with ETL tools and concepts.
• Hands‑on experience with database design and data modeling, preferable experience with Data Vault methodology.
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting SSIS packages.
• Experience consuming event‑based data through APIs or queues.
• Experience in Agile software development.
• Experience with insurance data highly desired.
• Detail oriented, solid organizational, and problem‑solving.
• Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
• Team oriented with a strong willingness to serve others in an agile startup environment.
• Flexible in assuming new responsibilities as they arise.
• Experience with Power Bi desired.

Responsibilities

• Design and Build Database Systems: design, construct, test, and maintain scalable data management systems.
• Data Modeling and Design: create data models and architecture patterns for performance and scalability.
• Data Strategy and Management: devise and implement data acquisition, archival, recovery strategies.
• Integration and Migration: ensure data integrity across sources and migrations for analytics.
• Performance Management: monitor and optimize database performance and storage.
• Collaboration and Support: work with developers, data scientists, analysts to meet data needs.
• Innovation and Research: stay updated on industry trends to enhance data architecture.
