Job summary

GEICO is seeking a data engineer to develop and maintain data delivery solutions that support operational reporting, datasets, extracts, and dashboards. You will contribute to design, testing, optimization, and support of data pipelines across multiple environments, collaborating with peers and stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

• Must be proficient developing data pipelines utilizing dbt, GitHub and Airflow, or similar technologies.
• Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

• Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
• Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate a strong foundation in modern data architecture concepts such as data warehouses, data marts, data lakes, lakehouses, and related data delivery patterns.
• Design efficient, scalable data models and data delivery solutions for complex projects, with guidance from architecture and leadership teams as needed.
• Recommend practical data delivery technologies and approaches that improve maintainability, performance, and usability.
• Proficiently execute all phases of development for automated data delivery processes supporting reporting and dashboards using ETL/ELT tools such as dbt, Azure Data Factory, or related technologies.
• Apply advanced SQL skills to write, debug, optimize, and maintain queries and data pipelines.
• Use strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Support the migration of existing SAS solutions to technologies used widely at GEICO, such as dbt and Power BI.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement data models and architectures that support client projects and initiatives.
• Perform and automate daily maintenance processes.
• Assist with data and database migrations, testing, and validation.
• Contribute to team-level development standards and best practices, including documentation, modularization, testing, and code review expectations.
