About the Role
Promevo is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize enterprise-grade data pipelines and AI infrastructure across client environments. This remote role focuses on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), generative AI, agent observability, and enterprise data analytics.
You will develop scalable data pipelines, implement BigQuery analytics using raw, processed, and curated data layers, and build data integrations that support AI agents and large language model (LLM) grounding. The role also involves establishing cost governance datasets, strengthening data security and lineage, and modernizing legacy data pipelines using AI-driven automation. Working closely with cloud architects, principal managers, and client technical leads, you will contribute to implementation, documentation, and technical knowledge transfer.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform using BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, and Pub/Sub.
- Implement BigQuery agent analytics using raw, processed, and curated medallion architecture layers to organize agent interaction telemetry, latency metrics, and error rates.
- Build and optimize data integrations between enterprise repositories, including BigQuery and external storage, and high-code Agent Development Kit (ADK) agents running on Google Cloud Agent Runtime.
- Develop reusable reference connector patterns, dbt and LookML models, and automated orchestration workflows using Cloud Composer and Apache Airflow.
- Configure agent observability integrations with BigQuery, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Monitoring to support operational dashboards and service level objectives (SLOs).
- Implement billing export views, cost allocation tagging, and chargeback-ready BigQuery datasets to support FinOps governance and budget alerts for AI agent workloads.
- Apply data governance, identity and access management (IAM), VPC Service Controls (VPC-SC), and Sensitive Data Protection (SDP) policies in coordination with Model Armor and Agent Gateway security frameworks.
- Implement end-to-end data lineage, metadata management, and automated cataloging using Dataplex to support data quality, observability, and compliance.
- Support replay validation jobs and model/version regression testing in BigQuery to help verify model accuracy and behavioral compliance across revisions.
- Use AI-driven automation to modernize legacy data pipelines, map schemas, enrich governance frameworks, and maintain semantic layers across BigQuery and Looker/LookML.
- Collaborate with principal managers, cloud architects, and client technical leads during discovery, implementation, and operational handover.
- Prepare technical documentation, runbooks, and developer playbooks for client engineering teams.
- Participate in technical pairing sessions, business-unit hackathons, enablement workshops, and knowledge transfer sessions focused on AI data engineering and responsible generative AI use.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- At least four years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, including at least two years focused on Google Cloud Platform.
- Strong experience with BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer or Apache Airflow, and production ELT/ETL pipelines.
- Experience supporting AI/ML or generative AI data requirements, such as telemetry processing, vector search, embeddings, or LLM grounding data layers.
- Experience creating operational dashboards using Data Studio or Looker Studio and configuring GCP Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging.
- Understanding of enterprise data governance, data lineage, Dataplex, encryption, IAM, and privacy controls, including SDP/DLP.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare technical runbooks and architecture documentation.
Preferred Qualifications / Requirements
- Google Cloud BigQuery expertise, including partitioned and clustered tables, complex SQL queries, materialized views, BigQuery ML and Vertex AI integration, and semantic modeling with LookML or Looker.
- Experience designing and operating multi-tier medallion data architectures for operational and analytical workloads.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, including vector embeddings, LLM grounding, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and MLOps pipelines using Vertex AI Pipelines.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Terraform for provisioning data pipelines, Cloud Composer workflows, IAM roles, and cloud analytics infrastructure.
- Experience or a strong interest in using AI automation to translate legacy pipelines, map schemas, and generate semantic layers.
- Google Certified Professional Data Engineer or Professional Machine Learning Engineer certification is strongly preferred.
