Job description

Global insurance firm located in Springfield, MA, has an immediate contract opportunity for a Data Engineer.

• 6+ month contract
• If not local, must be open to relocation

This role is currently work-from-home and will transition to an office environment once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Responsibilities:

1. Design, build, and measure complex ELT jobs to process disparate data sources, forming high-integrity, high-quality, clean data assets.
2. Execute and provide feedback on data modeling policies, procedures, processes, and standards.
3. Assist with capturing and documenting system flow and other technical information related to data, database design, and systems.
4. Develop data quality standards and tools to ensure data accuracy.
5. Collaborate across departments to understand new data patterns.
6. Translate high-level business requirements into technical specifications.

Required Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data modeling, and database design.
• 3+ years of coding and scripting experience with Python, Java, or Scala, including design experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Spark framework.
• Experience with ELT methodologies and tools.
• Experience with Vertica.
• Expertise in tuning and troubleshooting SQL.
• Advanced SQL skills.
• Strong data integrity, analytical, and multitasking skills.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with agile project delivery processes.
• Knowledge of SQL for data access and analysis.
• Experience with Airflow.
• Ability to manage diverse projects impacting multiple roles and processes.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting problem areas and identifying data gaps and issues.
• Adaptability to fast-changing environments.
• Experience with Python.
• Basic knowledge of database technologies such as Vertica and Redshift.
