Reach Velocity - Emerging Technology is seeking a data engineer for an onsite role in Houston, TX. You will build Python services, optimize warehouse design and SQL performance, and implement reliable data checks while collaborating with users to understand needs.
The ideal candidate has at least three years of commercial data engineering experience, strong Python/SQL, and familiarity with cloud data infrastructure and workflow orchestration (AWS, Snowflake, dbt, Prefect).
Houston, Texas · Onsite · Base salary up to $150,000
Good data engineering makes complex information dependable and easy to use. We’re looking for someone who enjoys that challenge, from bringing new data sources into a platform to improving the systems people rely on every day.
Our client is an established international organisation modernising its data infrastructure. You’ll join an experienced engineering team and help develop the foundations for analytics, business applications and AI.
This is an onsite position in Houston, Texas, offering a base salary of up to $150,000.
Your work will combine new development with practical platform improvements. One project might involve integrating an external API; another could mean redesigning a warehouse model, replacing an ageing workflow or investigating a data-quality issue.
You’ll work closely with the people using your systems, understand their needs and make informed decisions about reliability, performance and cost. You’ll remain responsible for your components once they’re live.
You’ll bring at least three years of commercial data engineering experience, with examples of systems you’ve built and supported in production.
Strong Python and SQL are central to the role. You should be comfortable discussing how you structure code, model data, test changes and diagnose performance problems.
We’re also looking for experience with cloud data infrastructure and workflow orchestration. You don’t need an exact match to the technology stack, but you should understand the trade-offs between different storage and processing approaches.
You’ll be able to ask good questions, explain decisions clearly and work through requirements with non-engineering colleagues.
The environment includes AWS, Snowflake, dbt and Prefect, alongside messaging, caching and time-series technologies. Experience with alternatives is welcome.
Exposure to Docker, Terraform or Python API development would be useful.
You’ll own meaningful parts of a platform, learn from senior engineers and see your work used directly across the business. There’s scope to grow beyond individual pipelines into broader platform design and delivery.
