Job summary

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a City Research Scientist candidate to advance community engagement strategies focused on children, youth and families. The role involves coordinating CBPAR-based projects, analyzing feedback, and guiding policy-relevant planning with diverse stakeholders.

You will lead engagement initiatives, supervise or collaborate with partners, and ensure rigorous reporting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years as project manager of community engagement initiatives including CBPAR.
  • Familiarity with the local mental health system for children and adolescents.
  • Qualitative analytic skills and experience with qualitative analytic software.
  • Experience synthesizing and reporting information to various stakeholders including youth and families.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments within tight timelines.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Research community planning approaches and CBPAR to guide engagement.
  • Develop and support implementation of a bureau community engagement strategy, including input from youth and families.
  • Analyze and synthesize community feedback for planning decisions; report findings to staff and stakeholders.
  • Develop tools to track use of and responses to community feedback.
  • Lead the NYCHD Youth Committee on Mental Health to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and partners supporting engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate with staff to strengthen capacity for engagement best practices.
