Job description

Join our dynamic AWS team and become a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure! You’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining the heartbeat of the world’s most innovative technology platform, ensuring seamless data center operations that power millions of businesses and services worldwide. This Data Center Technician position involves in-depth hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair, as well as participation in an on‑call rotation. Amazon does not sponsor immigration visas for this role. Eligible candidates who relocate may receive a lump sum stipend.

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds
  • Working in cramped and/or elevated locations
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching
  • Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely
  • Working in an industrial environment
  • Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts)
  • May be required to travel to training locations until a facility becomes fully operational
  • Travel or commute to active data center sites as required
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform server rack installations and hardware break‑fix on various components
  • Troubleshoot network issues, respond to operational incidents that impact service availability, and carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to ensure overall AWS service availability
  • Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors
  • Participate in on‑call duties and scheduled maintenance and change management activities
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issue analysis
  • Help interview, train, and onboard new team members

  • Take ownership of technical issues brought by customers, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution
  • Show a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Solve problems at their root and understand the broader context
  • Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting
  • Act in the absence of direction or support when required
  • Improve effectiveness through process innovation
  • Work shift schedules that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Basic Qualifications
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience
  • 18+ months of computer layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional or military experience in an IT‑related field (e.g., computer science, network engineering)
  • Industry standard certifications (CompTIA, CCENT, Network+)
  • Understanding of Linux or similar operating systems
  • Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience
  • Experience training and onboarding of new team members
