Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Data Center Technician in Texas to join a dynamic AWS team responsible for maintaining data center hardware, networking, and operational readiness. The role involves on‑call rotations and travel between active data center sites as needed to ensure continuous service availability.

Key responsibilities include hardware troubleshooting, network repairs, and collaboration with engineers and contractors. A flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, is required.

Qualifications

  • 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience.
  • 18+ months of computer layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair).
  • Willingness to travel between data center sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fix on various components, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability
  • Carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to contribute to the overall availability of AWS services
  • Serve as a primary contact point for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors
  • Perform on‑call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues
  • Help interview, train, and onboard new team members

Data Center Technician position involves in-depth hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair as well as participating in an on‑call rotation.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds each
  • Working in cramped and/or elevated locations
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching
  • Standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation
  • Work in an industrial environment
  • Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts)
  • Assigned to a facility still under development, potentially requiring travel to established locations for training until the site is fully operational
Essential Requirements
  • Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed
  • Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational
  • Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility
  • Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs

Basic Qualifications
  • Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience
  • 18+ months of computer layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional or military experience in an IT‑related field (e.g., computer science, network engineering)
  • Industry standard certifications (CompTIA, CCENT, Network+)
  • Understanding of Linux or similar operating systems
  • Behavioral interviewing and hiring experience
  • Experience training and onboarding of new team members
Base Salary and Benefits

Base salary range for this position in USA, TX, Wharton is 30.00 - 54.00 USD hourly. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
