Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Data Center Tech to support the U.S. Navy in a 100% onsite role in San Diego, CA.

You will coordinate daily priorities, perform hands‑on rack and stack, install and decommission equipment, and work with engineering teams to ensure proper connectivity and deployment. The role requires 5+ years in data center environments, Cisco/Juniper experience, VMware, and an Active Secret clearance with IAT Level II.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience supporting data center, network lab, IT infrastructure, or related environments.
• Hands‑on rack & stack, equipment installation, cabling, and data center operations.
• Experience with Cisco and/or Juniper equipment in enterprise or data center settings.
• Knowledge of LAN, SAN, WAN, and physical connectivity.
• Ability to read cabling layouts and network diagrams.
• Familiarity with VMware/vSphere and Windows servers.
• Ability to work independently and resolve onsite issues.
• Active Secret security clearance.
• IAT Level II certification.
• OS/App certifications (MTA, MCSA, MCTS, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Perform hands‑on rack & stack, install, mount, connect, and organize data center hardware.
• Install, route, label, and troubleshoot network cabling per standards.
• Support equipment decommissioning and staging of obsolete gear.
• Collaborate with network and systems engineers to ensure proper installation and deployment.
• Support data center modernization projects, including moves and upgrades.
• Coordinate with onsite, remote, and government customers to maintain schedules.
• Escalate issues and communicate technical challenges to engineering teams.

Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Data Center Tech to support the U.S. Navy. This role is 100% onsite in San Diego, CA and will support a network-based lab environment undergoing significant equipment modernization and consolidation. The Data Center Tech will serve as the primary onsite resource responsible for coordinating day-to-day priorities, physically installing and removing network equipment, managing cabling, and working closely with engineering teams to ensure equipment is installed and connected correctly.

Responsibilities of the Data Center Tech include:

• Serve as the primary onsite resource, coordinating daily priorities, assigning tasks, & communicating project status to management & engineering teams
• Perform hands‑on rack & stack activities, including physically installing, mounting, connecting, & organizing network equipment, servers, & other data center hardware
• Install, route, label, & troubleshoot network cabling using cable matrices and established installation standards
• Support equipment decommissioning, including identifying, disconnecting, removing, & properly staging obsolete equipment to make room for new infrastructure
• Work closely with network & systems engineers to ensure equipment is physically installed, connected, & positioned correctly prior to configuration and deployment
• Support ongoing data center and network lab modernization projects, including equipment moves, installations, consolidations, & infrastructure upgrades
• Coordinate with onsite teammates, remote resources, & government customers to resolve issues and maintain project schedules
• Serve as a reliable escalation point for onsite operational issues, independently identifying solutions and communicating technical challenges to the appropriate engineering teams

Qualifications of the Data Center Tech include:

• 5+ years of experience supporting data center, network lab, IT infrastructure, or related technical environments
• Hands‑on experience with rack & stack, equipment installation, hardware removal, cabling, & data center operations
• Experience working with Cisco and/or Juniper network equipment in an enterprise or data center environment
• Understanding of LAN, SAN, WAN, network infrastructure, & physical connectivity
• Experience reading & working with cable matrices, equipment layouts, network diagrams, or similar technical documentation
• Familiarity with physical servers, VMware/vSphere, virtual Windows systems, & general data center/lab equipment
• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot onsite issues, coordinate priorities, & communicate effectively with engineering teams and customers
• Active Secret security clearance
• IAT Level II certification
• OS/App certification, such as Microsoft MTA, MCSA, MCTS, or equivalent

Compensation for the Data Center Tech includes:

• Salary: $75,000–$82,000 depending on experience
• Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k Plan, Holidays, PTO, sick leave as required by law
