Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Data Center Tech to support a U.S. Navy lab in San Diego, CA. This 100% onsite role focuses on coordinating daily priorities, installing/removing network equipment, and managing cabling in a modernizing data center.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in data center environments, hands-on rack and stack experience, and familiarity with Cisco/Juniper gear, VMware, and Windows systems. An Active Secret clearance and IAT Level II certification are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data center, network lab, IT infrastructure, or related environments.
• Hands-on rack & stack, equipment installation and cable management experience.
• Experience with Cisco and/or Juniper equipment in enterprise or data center setups.
• Familiarity with LAN, SAN, WAN, and physical connectivity.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary onsite resource, coordinating daily priorities and communicating project status.
• Perform hands-on rack & stack activities, including installing and removing network equipment and hardware.
• Install, route, label, and troubleshoot network cabling according to standards.
• Support decommissioning and staging of equipment for new infrastructure.
• Work with engineers to ensure correct physical installation prior to configuration.
• Support lab modernization projects including moves and upgrades.
• Coordinate with onsite, remote, and government customers to resolve issues and keep schedules.
• Act as escalation point for onsite issues and communicate challenges to engineering teams.

Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Data Center Tech to support the U.S. Navy. This role is 100% onsite in San Diego, CA and will support a network-based lab environment undergoing significant equipment modernization and consolidation. The Data Center Tech will serve as the primary onsite resource responsible for coordinating day-to-day priorities, physically installing and removing network equipment, managing cabling, and working closely with engineering teams to ensure equipment is installed and connected correctly.

Responsibilities of the Data Center Tech include:

• Serve as the primary onsite resource, coordinating daily priorities, assigning tasks, & communicating project status to management & engineering teams
• Perform hands-on rack & stack activities, including physically installing, mounting, connecting, & organizing network equipment, servers, & other data center hardware
• Install, route, label, & troubleshoot network cabling using cable matrices and established installation standards
• Support equipment decommissioning, including identifying, disconnecting, removing, & properly staging obsolete equipment to make room for new infrastructure
• Work closely with network & systems engineers to ensure equipment is physically installed, connected, & positioned correctly prior to configuration and deployment
• Support ongoing data center and network lab modernization projects, including equipment moves, installations, consolidations, & infrastructure upgrades
• Coordinate with onsite teammates, remote resources, & government customers to resolve issues and maintain project schedules
• Serve as a reliable escalation point for onsite operational issues, independently identifying solutions and communicating technical challenges to the appropriate engineering teams

Qualifications of the Data Center Tech include:

• 5+ years of experience supporting data center, network lab, IT infrastructure, or related technical environments
• Hands-on experience with rack & stack, equipment installation, hardware removal, cabling, & data center operations
• Experience working with Cisco and/or Juniper network equipment in an enterprise or data center environment
• Understanding of LAN, SAN, WAN, network infrastructure, & physical connectivity
• Experience reading & working with cable matrices, equipment layouts, network diagrams, or similar technical documentation
• Familiarity with physical servers, VMware/vSphere, virtual Windows systems, & general data center/lab equipment
• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot onsite issues, coordinate priorities, & communicate effectively with engineering teams and customers
• Active Secret security clearance
• IAT Level II certification
• OS/App certification, such as Microsoft MTA, MCSA, MCTS, or equivalent

Compensation for the Data Center Tech includes:

• Salary: $75,000–$82,000 depending on experience
• Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k Plan, Holidays, PTO, sick leave as required by law
