Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions seeks a Data Center Tech to support a US Navy network-based lab in San Diego, CA. This 100% onsite role involves installing/removing network gear, managing cabling, and coordinating with engineering teams to ensure proper setup and ongoing modernization.

Requirements include 5+ years in data center environments, hands-on equipment installation, and an Active Secret security clearance with IAT Level II and DoD-related certifications.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data center, network lab, IT infrastructure, or related environments.
• Hands-on rack & stack, equipment installation, cabling, and data center operations.
• Experience with Cisco and/or Juniper network equipment in enterprise or data center environments.
• Understanding of LAN, SAN, WAN, and physical connectivity.
• Familiarity with cable matrices, equipment layouts, network diagrams, or similar docs.
• Knowledge of physical servers, VMware/vSphere, virtual Windows systems, and data center/lab equipment.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with engineering teams and customers.
• Active Secret security clearance; IAT Level II certification; OS/App certs like Microsoft MTA/MCSA/MCTS.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily priorities as the primary onsite resource and communicate project status to management and engineering teams.
• Hands-on rack & stack: install, mount, connect, and organize network equipment and data center hardware.
• Install, route, label, and troubleshoot network cabling per matrices and standards.
• Support decommissioning: identify, disconnect, remove, and stage obsolete equipment.
• Work with engineers to ensure proper installation and connection before deployment.
• Support lab modernization projects: moves, installations, consolidations, and upgrades.
• Coordinate with onsite teammates, remote resources, and government customers to keep schedules.
• Serve as escalation point for onsite issues and communicate technical challenges to engineering teams.
