Job summary

ESP Global Services seeks a hands-on Data Center Technician to support Layer 1 physical network operations in data centers and network closets. The role emphasizes racking, cabling, hardware turn-up, and on-site deployment execution, following detailed plans with precision.

This 7-month contract requires independence and strict adherence to deployment documentation, with emphasis on physical-layer accuracy.

Qualifications

• 1 to 3 years’ experience performing hands‑on data center or network physical work.
• Familiarity with racking, cabling standards, and physical network infrastructure.
• Basic understanding of networking concepts at a high level (L1 fundamentals).
• Ability to follow written procedures, diagrams, and deployment documentation.
• Able to communicate cross functions.

Responsibilities

• Rack and stack network switches, routers, firewalls, and supporting hardware.
• Perform structured cable management including labelling, dressing, and patching.
• Validate power and network connectivity (power feeds, port status, link lights).
• Execute basic device turn-up tasks such as console access and verifying LEDs.
• Follow rack elevations and deployment plans accurately.
• Document work performed and update tickets and deployment notes.
• Coordinate handoffs and escalate issues to network engineering teams.
• Work independently in data centres or network closets with no direct supervision.
• Be available for evenings, nights, or weekends for maintenance windows.
• Lift/move equipment, work in tight spaces, and stand or crouch for extended periods.
• Communicate clearly and provide clean handoffs.
