Job summary

JLL is hiring a Data Center Operating Engineer in Elk Grove Village, IL to ensure continuous uptime of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including UPS, generators, cooling, and fire/life safety systems. You will monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot building systems, analyze failures, and manage work orders and vendor relationships.

This role requires 2+ years in data centers and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a data center/critical facility.
• Experience with UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgear.
• Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, Google Suite and CMMS.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance for all building systems to ensure 100% uptime (fire/life safety, HVAC, chillers, CRAH, CRAH, plumbing, controls).
• Monitor operation of refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; boilers, pumps, valves, and filters.
• Record readings and adjust operations to ensure proper equipment performance.
• Analyze system operations to identify causes of problems and take corrective actions.
• Comply with hazardous materials storage and disposal policies and maintain a clean, safe workplace.
• Learn the data center site to manage incidents and events affecting critical systems.
• Handle work orders, CMMS, vendor management, and customer-facing tickets.
