Job summary

Amphenol Communications Solutions (ACS), a division of Amphenol Corporation, seeks a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer focused on Data Center high-speed IO connectors in Santa Clara, CA.

You will drive concept generation, design, verification, and qualification of hardware for customer systems, ensuring manufacturability and meeting electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements. The position provides close collaboration with global teams and customers.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with mechanical analysis (static/dynamic).
• Experience with risk assessment and mitigation in designs.
• Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, SpaceClaim).
• Proficiency in FEA for static and dynamic loads (ANSYS preferred).
• Knowledge of GD&T and material selection.
• Experience with mechanical/environmental testing.
• Ability to lead teams and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop hardware to integrate IO connectors into customer systems from initial proposal to tooling and qualifications.
• Perform Design FMEA, tolerance analysis, DFM, FEA, and risk analysis.
• Define customer needs and performance requirements with Marketing and customers; assess technical risk.
• Collaborate with internal/external manufacturing disciplines to optimize design for production processes.
• Lead product design reviews.
• Verify accuracy of product drawings and GD&T usage.
• Define material choices with Materials Engineering based on performance, pricing, sourcing.
• Interact with customers during development; present concepts and incorporate feedback.
• Define product, application, and packaging specifications and test plans.
• Manage first article inspections and ensure smooth transition to manufacturing.
• Coordinate with NPI and manufacturing engineering across global teams.
