MasTec, Inc. is seeking a Data Center Fiber Technician II to install, splice, test, and document fiber optic systems in mission-critical data center environments. You will handle fusion splicing, certify backbone/horizontal cabling, and perform OTDR/FT testing to meet quality standards.

The role requires INST2 certification and 3–5+ years of fiber experience, with strong documentation and safety practices in a fast-paced project setting.

Qualifications

• INST2 certification required or equivalent.
• 3–5+ years fiber optic installation/splicing.
• Proficient with fusion splicing equipment.
• Experience with OTDR, optical power meter, light source, VFL, and fiber inspection scopes.
• Ability to complete fiber installations with minimal supervision.
• Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Independently install, terminate, splice, test, troubleshoot, and document fiber optic infrastructure in data centers.
• Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multimode fibers.
• Install, terminate, and certify backbone and horizontal fiber cabling systems.
• Conduct OTDR, insertion loss, power meter, and fiber certification testing.
• Read construction drawings and splice diagrams; maintain documentation.
• Maintain equipment and calibration records; ensure safety and QA policies.

Responsibilities

The Data Center Fiber Technician II is responsible for independently installing, terminating, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting fiber optic infrastructure within mission-critical data center environments. This technician serves as a technical resource on project sites, ensuring all work meets BICSI standards, customer specifications, and quality expectations.

In addition, you will:

• Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multimode fiber optic cables
• Install, terminate, and certify fiber optic backbone and horizontal cabling systems
• Perform OTDR, insertion loss, optical power meter, and fiber certification testing
• Troubleshoot fiber optic systems and resolve connectivity issues
• Read and interpret construction drawings, rack elevations, splice diagrams, and network documentation
• Install fiber distribution panels, splice enclosures, MTP/MPO systems, and high-density fiber solutions
• Ensure proper cable routing, labeling, and documentation
• Verify all installations meet BICSI, ANSI/TIA, NEC, and customer quality standards
• Assist in coordinating daily work activities and mentoring junior technicians
• Complete project documentation, redlines, and turnover packages
• Maintain all testing equipment and calibration records
• Follow all site safety policies and quality assurance procedures

Qualifications

About You:

• You have a BICSI Installer 2 (INST2) certification
• 3-5+ years of fiber optic installation and splicing experience
• Demonstrated proficiency with fusion splicing equipment
• Experience operating OTDR, Optical Power Meter, Light Source, VFL, and Fiber Inspection Scope
• Ability to independently complete fiber installations with minimal supervision
• Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
