Job summary

Uber is seeking an experienced Data Center Engineer to lead design and retrofit of structured cabling and physical networking systems across data centers. You will prepare conceptual designs, criteria, and specifications for deployments and retrofits, ensuring uptime and operational efficiency.

Role involves collaborating with on-site Ops teams and external partners, reviewing test results, and traveling to data center sites to oversee installations and preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

• B.S. in mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering degree.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in data center design, construction and operations (RCDD is preferred).
• Travel to data center sites (25% to 50%).
• Knowledge of mission-critical structured cabling distribution and data center topologies.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Network Engineering to understand future structured cable requirements and deployments.
• Drive structured cable innovation within Uber’s data centers and across the industry.
• Review structured cable designs for feasibility & uptime.
• Prepare design criteria and specifications for data center retrofits.
• Review test scripts, procedures, and results.
• Travel to data center sites to oversee retrofits, testing and network turn-up.
• Assist in managing relationships with data center providers, contractors, and suppliers.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance for structured cable and physical network systems.
