Job summary

The University of Washington’s UW-IT is seeking a Critical Environment Engineer to ensure the operational integrity of the Data Center and related facilities. You will monitor power, cooling, and space utilization, coordinating with cross-functional teams.

You will lead internal projects, serve as SME for research computing expansions, participate in on-call rotations, and report to DCSO. The role requires collaboration across stakeholders and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in critical environmental systems maintenance and data center operations.
• Ability to work independently and quickly learn new technologies.
• Experience with space, power and cooling planning.
• Strong written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily checks of data center facilities to ensure reliable operations.
• Serve as SME for data center research projects and coordinate staff.
• Contribute to design basis for renovations and new construction.
• Develop site profiles for electrical, HVAC and structural characteristics.
• Manage data center projects and rack/cabinet layout designs.
• Provide training on equipment and monitoring techniques.
