Job summary

University of Utah is seeking an experienced Data Architect to design, build, test, implement and maintain data transformation pipelines at the UAIR office in Salt Lake City. This role supports strategic reporting and enterprise data systems with a hybrid work arrangement requiring three days on campus.

The candidate will handle data models, data wrangling, and data quality while collaborating across teams and adopting new tools. Strong SQL, Python, and visualization experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field with 4+ years (or 2+ years for Master’s) of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in querying, manipulating and analyzing complex datasets.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for presenting to varied audiences.
• Experience with Tableau and Power BI for data visualization.
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with data wrangling and APIs.

We are seeking an experienced data architect to participate in thedesign, build, testing, implementation, and maintenance of datatransformation pipelines. As a member of the team, you'll work witha group of data management professionals who are dedicated todesigning and delivering thoughtful data models and wrangling datawith care.

Like many areas at the University of Utah, our office is a hybridwork environment and requires residence in the state of Utah withthe ability to work from campus 3 days per week. Responsibilities

• Research source data structures, relationships, content andquality. Support requirements discovery.
• Design, build, implement, and maintain data transformationpipelines, processes and reporting structures formatted to supportdata science, strategic reporting, master data sources, enterpriseintegrations, point-in-time snapshots and more
• Help automate and manage data quality audits and correctionprocesses
• Write complex SQL queries to support analytics needs
• Develop and maintain data and process documentation, includingdata flow diagrams, data concepts, keys, definitions, processsteps, etc.
• Share your ideas and knowledge, be open to learning fromothers, and grow with the team as we explore new ideas, methods andtools in our journey of continuous forward progress

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience, or master's degreeand 4 years of work experience in institutional research, businessanalytics, data science or related field
• Proficiency in querying, manipulating and analyzing complexdatasets
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and theability to present complex data to both technical and non-technicalaudiences
• Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools such asTableau, Microsoft Power Bi, etc.
• Experience with data querying languages such as SQL
• Proficiency in python coding
• Experience working with API's
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and workcollaboratively across teams

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher educationcan be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience).

Preferences

• Advanced Oracle SQL skills to query and manipulate data, createand manage objects.
• experience and acumen to move complex data transformationprojects forward under minimal supervision.
• 6 or more years of experience in any of the followingareas:
• Relational database or data warehouse programming/developmentwith an aptitude for translating business needs into soundtechnical solutions.
• Data reporting and analysis, building queries from largerelational databases to audit data, perform ad hoc analysis,generate standard reports, with a strong understanding of theback-end structures that facilitate reporting.
• Higher education administration with broad and deep knowledgeof student, faculty, HR or finance data and processes, orexperience managing data in an institutional research (IR)setting.
• Business systems analysis with a strong understanding ofrequirements analysis, data and process flows, liaising withfunctional and technical groups, testing, auditing data,troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Experience with PeopleSoft data, Tableau, Lucid Chart, and/orsimilar ERP systems, visualization and diagramming tools.
• Experience building data pipelines in AWS using tools such asGlue and Apache Airflow
• A Master's degree in MIS or related field
