Job description

Job Description

Nordstrom is committed to being the leader in Omnichannel retailing. We have long recognized the importance of having strong capabilities in both Physical and Digital retailing and we continue to innovate on how we can help our customers Feel Good and Look Their Best. The Data Analyst 3 is an individual contributor on the Merchandising Insights & Strategic Operations (MISO) team within Inventory. MISO sits at the center of how inventory moves through Nordstrom, supporting Merch Ops, Inbound Flow, RP, and Supplier Compliance. You'll build the analytics that help those teams see what's happening, spot problems early, and make faster, better calls on how product flows from suppliers to our stores and customers. The work is a mix of keeping the core reporting reliable and modernizing it. Our teams are moving dashboards and data sources onto Looker and BigQuery, and replacing legacy tools and servers with newer platforms, so you'll help make sure the numbers people rely on carry over accurately and get easier to use. You'll also help bring practical AI into the day-to-day, whether that's speeding up analysis, automating repetitive workflows, or showing partners what's possible with tools like Claude. A day in the life…

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, maintain, and evolve Looker dashboards and self-service tools that Merch Ops, Inbound Flow, RP, and Supplier Compliance rely on to run the business.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand their analytics needs, and turn open-ended questions into clear, reliable answers.
  • Own the data models and BigQuery queries behind inventory reporting, with a focus on accuracy, scalability, and reuse.
  • Build and maintain Python and Airflow pipelines that keep key data fresh, validated, and monitored.
  • Support the move from legacy reporting and data sources to Looker, BigQuery, and newer platform tools, making sure numbers carry over accurately.
  • Use AI-assisted tools like Claude Code and Claude Desktop to speed up analysis, automate repetitive workflows, and raise the quality of your output.
  • Dig into ad hoc analysis to explain inventory, inbound, replenishment, and supplier trends, and present findings to business partners and leadership.
  • Work with Data Engineering, Insights, and Technology teams on data dependencies and platform changes.
  • Share what you learn with the team, help set standards for how we build and document analytics, and help others get more out of the tools.
Key Requirements
  • Degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Computer Science, or related field required.
  • 4+ years of data analytics experience; demonstrated ability to deliver business-critical analytics independently and raise analytical standards across a team.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development and productivity tools (e.g., Claude Code, Claude Desktop) to accelerate analysis, automate data workflows, and produce higher-quality output faster.
  • Advanced SQL skills with hands-on BigQuery experience; strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and query construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain data pipelines and lightweight automation in Python, including validation, monitoring, and workflow scripts, with hands-on Airflow experience for scheduling and orchestration.
  • Proficiency with at least one leading visualization tool (Looker preferred) and best practices for operational dashboarding.
  • Strong operational business understanding, including the downstream effects of inventory flow, supplier performance, and replenishment decisions on cost and service.
  • Supply chain expertise in retail or consumer goods preferred, with familiarity in inbound operations, inventory, replenishment, or supplier compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting findings to business stakeholders and operational leadership.
