Job summary

Joby Flight Research, part of Joby Aviation, is building autonomous aircraft with radar and sensing systems. The DAA Lead owns the DAA capability across the portfolio—from architecture and sensor strategy to requirements, certification basis, and the roadmap to a shipped, certifiable product.

You will collaborate with radar, autonomy/GNC, systems engineering, safety, flight test, and regulators to translate requirements into testable specs, manage risk, and defend compliance concepts against

Qualifications

7+ years in aerospace, autonomy, robotics, or related field with ownership of a complex safety-critical system.
Bachelor’s Degree or advanced degree in related field.
Deep understanding of detect-and-avoid / sense-and-avoid: sensors, tracking, sensor fusion, collision avoidance, well clear.

Responsibilities

Own the DAA portfolio across multiple aircraft types and missions.
Architect across onboard, ground-based, and hybrid DAA implementations.
Drive commonality with a shared DAA core (tracking, threat assessment, well-clear).
Set certification and safety strategies for each architecture.
Own the DAA product vision and roadmap, balancing safety, certification, cost, and performance.
Translate DAA needs into radar and sensor requirements; define verification criteria.
Lead cross-functional collaboration among radar, perception, GNC, safety, flight test, and regulators.
