Julius Silvert is seeking a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) Functional/Technical Analyst to own the procure-to-pay, order-to-cash and inventory areas of our D365 environment. This role connects D365 to our warehouse, transportation, routing and EDI partners, and helps business users get more out of the application.
The ideal candidate listens first, solves with standard D365 functionality wherever possible, and treats customization as the last resort. They will also review existing X++ customizations to find code that can be retired in favor of process changes or out-of-the-box features.
Key responsibilities:
Core D365 F&O operations
- Support and configure purchase order, sales order and inventory transaction processes end to end (procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, inventory management).
- Troubleshoot transactional issues and resolve root causes across purchasing, sales, inventory and the related financial postings.
Integrations
- Design, build and support integrations between D365 F&O and external warehouse management (WMS), transportation management (TMS) and routing systems.
- Use APIs (OData, custom services, Data Management Framework, Power Automate / Logic Apps) and SFTP file transfers as appropriate to each partner.
- Integrate with EDI providers for inbound and outbound purchase orders, sales orders, inventory and related documents (e.g., 850, 855, 856, 810, 846, 940/945).
- Support both domestic and international logistics flows, including landed cost, import/export documentation and multi-currency considerations.
- Monitor integration health, manage error handling and reprocess failed transactions.
User configuration and enablement
- Tailor the application to each user group: workspaces, personalized forms, saved views, role-based security and dashboards that match each user's focus and expertise.
- Build operational insight for users through inquiries, reports and Power BI where appropriate.
Requirements gathering and solution design
- Meet with business users to understand their needs and translate them into solutions using standard D365 functionality.
- For needs the standard application cannot meet, recommend solutions in this order:
- Business process changes
- Additional applications with existing, proven D365 integrations (e.g., ISV solutions)
- Customization of D365, only when the first two options are not viable
- Document requirements, fit-gap analyses, functional designs and test plans.
Customization review and reduction
- Reverse engineers current X++ customizations to understand what they do and why.
- Identify customizations that can be replaced by process changes and/or existing standard functionality and plan their retirement.
- Develops and/or partners with other developers on any customizations that remain, ensuring the use extensions and follow Microsoft best practices.
Training
- Train internal staff and external partners (vendors, customers, 3PLs) to use D365 to accomplish their work objectives.
- Create and maintain training materials, job aids and process documentation.
Data analysis
- Analyze operational data from D365 and connected systems to identify trends, exceptions and opportunities for process improvement.
- Present findings and recommendations to business and IT leadership.
Required qualifications
- 4-8 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (or AX 2012) in a functional or functional/technical role.
- Strong working knowledge of procurement, sales order processing and inventory management in D365 F&O.
- Experience building or supporting integrations with WMS, TMS or routing systems via APIs and/or SFTP file transfers.
- Experience integrating D365 with EDI providers for purchase orders, sales orders and inventory documents.
- Ability to read and interpret X++ code well enough to determine what a customization does and whether standard functionality can replace it.
- Experience configuring D365 for users: security roles, workspaces, personalization and views.
- Proven ability to gather requirements from business users and translate them into practical solutions.
- Experience training end users and producing clear documentation.
- Working knowledge of SQL, Excel and data analysis for operational reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Business, Supply Chain or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in food distribution, foodservice or another wholesale distribution environment (catch weight, lot/batch tracking, expiration dates).
- Experience with international logistics: import/export, landed cost, customs brokers and freight forwarders.
- Familiarity with the Data Management Framework, OData, Dual-write, Power Automate, Logic Apps and Azure integration services.
- Experience with Power BI and Microsoft Power Platform.
- Experience with Lifecycle Services (LCS) / Power Platform admin center, release management and regression testing.
- Microsoft certifications such as MB-330 (Supply Chain Management Functional Consultant) or MB-310 (Finance Functional Consultant).
